Most of the characteristics or traits that parents pass on to their children are physical in nature. Examples of these are body build, color of the eyes and texture of the skin. A child who inherited shortness cannot grow as tall as other children even if he or she eats the right kinds of foods, or has enough exercise and rest. A child who inherited a tendency to be sick is likely to be sickly, too.
Other characteristics that children get from their parents are mental in nature like the ability to solve math problems or creative talents such as drawing, painting and singing. However, if children are not given the proper training, these abilities and talents would not be developed fully.
The characteristics that children inherit can affect their growth and development. Physical growth can be slowed down if a child is sickly. Children who are lacking in height or who may be thin or stout are often teased by other children. As a result, they may become shy and avoid people. This will affect their social development.

Taste Buddy
We have almost 10,000 taste buds in our mouths- even on the roofs of the mouth. Despite these numbers, our sense of taste is the weakest of the five sense. In general, girls have more taste buds tan boys.
At my New school
I never thought I would be homesick for my old school, but during my first week at my new school. I kept thinking how happy I had been there and how miserable I was here. The trouble was, I didn't know anybody yet. At my new school, I felt, at first that the teachers didn't have time for me. Everyone seemed so busy. Then I remembered the time when I first started going to my old school. I had felt the same way- a little lost and lonely- but after a while, I made friends. The strangeness wore off. Remembering that made me feel there was hope for my new school after all!

The Importance of Rest and Recreation
Nine year old Eleahjah had a very busy Saturday. After breakfast, she went for a walk at a nearby park with her older brothers. After walking, she rented a bike and rode around the park for one hour. Then she sat down to rest under a big shady tree.
After eating lunch at home, she took a short nap, then played a game of chess with her father. In the afternoon, she attended her cousin's birthday party. She ate cake and ice cream. played parlor games and dance with the other guests.
For Eleahjah, it was a day of rest and recreation. Do you also have time for rest and recreation like Eleahjah?
Take time to have a rest
There are times during the day when you need to rest. Rest is a short period of relaxation that the body needs after a tiring activity. It relieves the body and the mind of the feeling of tiredness.
You get tired when you work hard because the oxygen and food that give energy to your body are being used up. Thus, your body needs to slow down so that it can regain the energy it lost.
The amount of time needed for you to rest depends on how much energy you spent on a particular activity. At school, you are given a few minuted to rest during recess. At home, you can rest by simply sitting down of lying around. You can also watch television, listen to music, read a book nor even sleep.
Sleep is an important form of rest. It prepares your body for the coming day. Your body also repairs itself when you are asleep. Lack of sleep can affect your growth as well as your immune system which keeps you form getting sick.
A time for recreation
Nowadays.more and more children are participating in activities that they enjoy and that help them relax when they are not going to school. Such as an activity called recreation.

The Life Journey
Life is a journey we are stepping everyday
Through reality of our life's happenings
Laughter and joy we feel
You wake up everyday facing different situations
Looking for a dream hoping it will come true
You'll soon find it
At the end of each streams of our life
You always try your hard in every ways
It seems so far you are traveling
You will dream again and again
Wake up the next day
You lose everything
For a dream you always pray
With the places I traveled
The like journey of experiences and emotions
I believe I will soon find the place I wanted to be.
